DIY coffee face and body scrub

(ENG only) Time for another DIY recipe! Today I am sharing a super simple recipe for a coffee face and body scrub. I started using this only earlier this year but am already in love with it. Like the other DIY recipes I make, it`s super easy to put together (just 3 ingredients are required), it can be done in a couple of minutes, it smells amazing, it`s completely natural and toxic free, it`s not harmful for you and your skin to use, it makes you save a lot of money in the long run and prevents lots of waste, especially plastic one. So it`s a win win! What`s not to like about it? 🙂

I always encourage people to make their own products at home. It doesn`t have to be anything complicated, but it can be as simple as opening your pantry and mixing some coffee grounds with a couple of other ingredients into a bowl and that`s it! 🙂 There is something really calming and rewarding in making your own products. For me the most rewarding part of the process is knowing that I do something good to take care of myself and that I show more respect and kindness to our beautiful planet by trying to reduce my waste, cutting on my purchases and eventually, like in this case, re-purposing something (coffee grounds).

Here`s everything you need:

  • 6-7 tbsp of coconut oil. I always have it at home and it is a good basic ingredient for different recipes and purposes, but you can eventually customize this recipe by using a different oil or mixing some up
  • 15-20g of dry coffee grounds. Coffee is packed with antioxidants, brightens the skin and is good to fight cellulite too. Using some (dry) coffee grounds is a great way to re-purpose something that otherwise you would have simply put in the compost or thrown away even! So you can use them at no extra cost for you 😉
  • 125g of sugar
  • a mixing bowl
  • a table spoon
  • a chopstick or mixing utensil (I personally find very calming and easier to mix with a chopstick, especially once the oil is added to the dry ingredients).

First you want to mix the dry ingredients until they are well combined. Than add the oil, preferably adding it a few table spoons at a time until you reach the desired consistency. For me 6-7 tbsp of oil work well, but you can definitely add more or less if you want a wetter or drier consistency. Once the ingredients will be mixed well, you can store the scrub into a glass container and there you go, you got yourself a wonderfully smelling, effective, completely natural and cheap face and body scrub!

I usually prefer to make small quantities of product more often, so I am always sure that it stays nice and fresh (there is nothing in it that can actually go bad, but because there are no preservatives in it of any sort, it`s better to be safe than sorry!)

Bonus point: being mostly oil based, it leaves the skin soft and moisturized once you rinse it off, and I usually skip the body lotion afterwards (I hate using body lotion so this product solves two purposes)!

Be careful when you use it in the shower or bathtub because it may make the surface slippery.

I hope you enjoyed this quick DIY recipe, and let me know if you will give it a try!

xoxo
